City of Calgary Waterworks Building

This award-winning building is interesting in design and function. It was designed by an architectural company, Manasc Isaac which has offices in Calgary and was completed in 2007.  It is shaped like a wave and it requires a little closer look to fully understand all the features built into this building. Being it is the city of Calgary’s building used for all water works departments, the wave shape makes sense. It is inspired by the movement and translucency of water and it shows.

The cones are a throwback to the days when water was stored underground in clay cones, which is interesting. There are a few display boards that explain the design. It is a building to stop and take a look at.
